In Response To: Now you have me wondering (David Cooke)

Think about a 2000 W*s head at full power. Many have a flash duration of 1/800 to 1/1000 second. For simplicty, use the 1/1000 second duration, and calculate the instantaneous power... that's 2 Megawatts. That's a lot of juice to excite those Xenon atoms to make light. Unfortunately, to get those electrons in there, you have to have a cathod and an anode... and they get hot, really hot from all that power and some of their atoms will ultimately go to vapor and deposit on the inside of the flash tube causing the color shift... and they can stay in vapor and interfere with excitation of the Xenon.

All this is academic, and the truth is that there are so many other factors that can make a much bigger difference that none of this should worry you... much!

And for those of you that are a bit cavalier with your packs... when your heart becomes a bit unhappy in the hospital and the nice people decide to shock you and make you jolt out of the bed... they usually start with only 200 W*s and generally move to a maximum of 400 W*s. And I'm playing with 4000 W*s... there must be something wrong with me.
