Now that I think about it, the 18% grey probably works just fine with your 14N as well as Canon 1Ds since they both have full size (24x36mm) sensor.
If anyother users are curious, if your camera has 1.3x factor, then your camera is about 15% grey (it also mean that your image is 1/3 stop darker then full size senor or using film based camera) and if it has 1.6x factor, then it is 12% grey (2/3 stop darker).
