Gabe,
In your original post you said that you were changing the power setting on your strob and that was giving you different color effects in your images. I still maintain that the ONLY way to accurately correct for this problem is to do a custom white balance in camera. If your camera uses 12% grey, then get a 12% grey card, or follow the procedure outlined in the camera manual.
But, using the color temp symbols in your camera to set the white balance can be risky. And it isnot an accurate way of setting white balance for applications where you want color to be right on.
It is also the case that there is wide variation between the response curve of the sensors from one camera to another, even within the same brand and camera type.
So, the ONLY sure way to set white balance for critical applications is to do a custom white balance setting per the manufacturers instructions. Any other way, and you are only geting an approximation. Finally, anytime you change the lighting on a shoot with digital will require that you go back through your lighting setup and make appropriate adjustments.
