Percent gray doesn't matter for color balance (n)

For setting the custom white balance on a digital camera, it matters that the color of the test target is pure gray or pure white. It doesn't matter if the reflectivity of the target is 12% or 18% or whatever. The percent of gray reflectivity is only relevant for setting the exposure level, not the color balance, and I think Gabe already knows how to get proper exposure level.
On a related topic, keh.com often has used color meters for under $300.
