Elizabeth,
Wow! Beauty and articulate as well what w wonderful and powerful combintion. And, we think you hit the bullseye too!
We know that Chad is well connected and experienced wnough to know that virtually all agency models have some form of additional internet site or exposure mechanism too. It's just part of the business today. But, what he is getting at is the difference in approach and mental set of those who are serious and working at it every day rather than the occassional and not so serious model. He may prefer one look over another and one genre over another. We all have our preferences.

And tests do frequently go beyond four hours in our experience. We have for many years had to train our own models simply because we don't live close enough to an agency to connect. We have never charged for our service, even though training a model to actually work commercially in front of the camera takes us about a year, on average. For the garage shooter, if you get a coupple of great images out of a session, that's not a big problem. But, for a commercial photographer, one who works at it every day, that just isn't acceptible.
We need to be sure that a model can deliver what we need on the job, even if it is a small job. That is the reality of commercial photography. We are amazed at the fees we hear that some of the "less than serious" models are getting from people wanting/willing to shoot them. We say more power to them because they are making more on a per hour basis than our commercial models do. But, the work typically doesn't lead anywhere except to a posting on trhe web and another similar shoot next weekend or the next.
. We also like what Chad and some others have said and agree with it.

For us, the bottom line is that we expect anyone that gets in front of our camera to be serious enough about what they are trying to accomplish that they routinely make it a practice to return e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner. And if they haven't heard from people they want to work with that they initiate the contact and keep in touch and keep people thinking about them.

We are casting for some commercial work right now for a Northwest firm that supplies food items to top end restaurants around the greater Seattle area. It's not the cover of MAXIM magazine. But it is great exposure and it pays. Two of the models we think would be great for the job haven't contacted us in a number of weeks and don't routinely return their e-mail. SO, after talking about it today, we decided to skip over them for this job. We made some calls to several other models today.

It is clear that you are serious about what you do and act responsibly. We thing that is all David was asking for, and Dania and other models are asking for in return. What it really boils down to on that level is common courtesy.
Mike and Barbara
