Test...
Client's may wish to test the look of a model... quick roll shoot, but there is a whole not more that can be tested.
Experimenting with new lights, film stocks, sets, locations, etc... is not the best during work for a client. The best time to experiment, or "test" is during down time. A model that has good rapport with a photographer can work with a photographer during these periods and possibly work on a few things that they would like.
This can be a great win-win proposition as both the photographer and the model have an opportunity to expand their abilities and get something new and unique all at the risk of getting nothing out of the shoot.
