Thanks for taking the lead on this. I want to start by saying that I support this idea 100% and I will do whatever I can to help make it sucess.

I have some thoughts on this that I want to put on the table for discussion:

1) Ultimately this studio co-op will involve leasing a property, and in order to make that happen, someone will have to sign their name on the dotted line. Since this will not be an inexpensive proposition (otherwise we would each have our own studios, right?), this entails some risk to whomever assumes that role. Thus, I think we should at least consider the notion of forming some sort of corporation or LLC to facilitate this and to spread the risk. It might be a good time for one of us to consult an attorney, at least to get a professional opinion on how best to approach this.

2) As to the studio itself, physical location is probably less important than cost and building characteristics. Finding something that is ideally situated AND priced right AND having good studio possibilities is a very tall order. I'm hoping we can all concentrate on keeping the cost low rather than quibble over who has to drive farther to get there.

3) In addition to the rent, there will be utilities to consider.

4) We will need to write up some ground rules regarding cleaning up, security, storage, etc. Sure, this stuff goes without saying... but it will pay in the long run to document the agreement.

5) In a perfect world, we could figure out how to have a darkroom, too!
