Chad speaks the truth. As they say in the building trades, "only the poor workman blames his tools".
For instance: I'm not "all that" as a photographer, but I can hold my own... and I don't own a camera that is less than 20 years old. The shots of Dania that I have been posting recently were shot with a '70s vintage Minolta XG-1 -- manual focus, aperture priority only, no program modes at all -- really just a low-end, consumer grade SLR in it's day. (I know, I know... you're all thinking "yeah, and it shows, David")
The point is that it's all about technique -- your tools are an extension of yourself, but it is you that actually makes the photograph.
: James, this same drum you beat, "Not all
: of us can afford to use top of the line SLR
: digitals or shoot film all the time"
: has no bearing on the quality of work you
: shoot. For gods sakes I have seen half the
: gear do twice the work. I used to assist a
: photographer (yes I had to DO MY TIME, it
: wasn't magic) who would tell us assistants
: that he could shoot with a point and shoot,
: the camera was simply for the client to be
: impressed. I shoot with so much beat-up foam
: core that a craft store would be embarassed!
: Dont give us that same old diatribe, Ive
: told this to you before, sack up, not trying
: is the only thing that separates you from
: the work you are going to do tomorrow. So if
: you arent going to post here, fine dont,
: that wont solve the issue...
