The difficult thing, it seems to me, about deciding whether to do a TFP shoot is finding the balance between the model's needs and the photographer's.
Because I no longer shoot full-time, haven't in years, the idea of shooting anyplace, anytime with anybody isn't real attractive. So, I set up the rule for myself that I need to get something out of the shoot that's different from what I already have lying around on CDs. If it's interesting enough, I'll even shoot that for myself and shoot something else for the model, giving us both some of what we're seeking.
For a model, I think she should do the same thing, in reverse. Look at your portfolio. What is it you really want in there? Is there anybody you can afford to visit to get those images? Can you work out a deal where you work for him/her, and the shooter works for you?
Most people seem to use TFP as a method for entertaining themselves. But it can also be a way to build toward something. You just have to decide what it is you're building toward.
