I pretty much completely agree, well sort of. While I absolutely agree with you comment, "I figure at my age if a photograph gets me
: thinking sex, rather than
: composition/exposure/grain/technique, it worked." That's doubly true at my age! My own personal preference in erotica is toward the image which 'suggests' rather than one which explicitely 'shows'.For many of us who are or have been at least fairly successful in the marketplace and others who have higher levels of experience and knowledge, I agree the photo should stand on its own; it either communicates or it doesn't, regardless of technique. But others will be comimg here with less experience, those who are still learning and mastering 'technique'. Judging their images on the same level as the pros doesn't really help them to grow as photographers. For that reason, I think technique needs to be a part of our critiques.
