Not being a photographer, what all this boils down to is the attitude of elitism and arrogance. Elitism in the belief that only one way is superior in all situations, under all circumstances, of all the techniques available. Arrogance in the steadfast presumption that only one opinion matters.
Both attitudes have always been the hallmark of those who resist change. Every truly revolutionary artist suffered its consequences in his lifetime until the mainstream finally managed to catch up with him/her, often post mortem. I wonder Michelangelo would have had a similar attitude towards Monet had they known each other.
At some point, just because Henry stated "There will never be a b/w digital camera. You heard it here first" some techie at MIT is already thinking to himself "Oh, yeah..???" Give it five or ten years, but it will happen. You heard it here second.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even emphatic ones. For me personally, what will ultimately command my attention is not "Gee, what superior technical execution" but "Wow..."
